This town ain't big enough...

(Disclaimer: The internet makes it look less vibrant than it really is)
Hey everyone! End of the semester is here and that means I have time to bombard my blog with new stuff. This final painting for DFA was tons of fun, and I certainty learned a lot about color and mood. Plus westerns are tons of fun overall. I'd like to render out a bit more when I have some free time over break, but for now, this is the finished piece.

...And some progress
Yay, thumbnails

Gross, rough progress.

Final value study

Final-ish linework.

Fire hair and snow

This was my first time doing an environment heavy painting and although it was a challenge, it was also loads of fun. Also, I don't know how snow works, so that was interesting to research.

And below, some progress!

DFA and some fun characters

First Drawing for Animators project done! This was so much fun to do, definitely one of my favorite projects so far. I did not expect to like rendering as much as I did. Plus, designing characters out of abstract shapes is awesome.

Cup O' Bears

After a really long time, I finally did another Cup O' Doodle thingy. Eventually, I turned off the original doodle and ended up getting a little far away from it. But eh, it's ok. Things I learned from this: drawing is hard, bears are cuties.

Character Design Dump

Herro! So I decided to do one big update with the rest of the character design work I've been doing this  summer. This was my last week taking CGMA's Fundamentals of Character Design class and it was a great experience. I barely found any student's reactions to the courses so I'll talk about it briefly, just in case some of you might be interesting in taking one of their classes. Basically, it's an 8-week boot camp  and you get pre-recorded lectures, live Q&A sessions, and personal video crits from your teacher every single week. I really liked the experience and I feel like I did learn a lot; I am glad I actually decided to take it. It's great because the way it's structured feels like an actual classroom: you get feedback from your classmates, you get to crit their work, and you get to actually talk with your teacher. Overall, it's just pretty cool and I highly recommend it.

The dragons above were done for an assignment where we had to design a dragon and its rider using both a realistic and graphic approach. As you can see, my realistic one turned out to be more cartoony and my graphic one to be more realistic. But, oh well, I still had fun. Also, I still don't know how dragons work, sorry.

I also forgot how to perspective, that's cool. But it was fun working on compositions and experimenting with negative space, yay.

I didn't know how raccoons worked either, so I did a bunch of raccoon sketches before even thinking about designing one. Also, they walk really weird.
And then I did some stuff for fun, like this buff, badass chick.
...and these Frank Franzetta master copies.

Yeah.

My face, animated

I found my old tablet and was able to use Photoshop again while my Intuos 5 is waiting on repairs. So, I doodled and didn't do anything productive today. Yay.

Also, I still don't know why sometimes it doesn't work unless you click it, so. Yeah.

¡Olé!

Sit Stand from Millie González on Vimeo.

Just realized I forgot to post my final assignment for the Spring semester on here. An over-confident matador doesn't realize how scary his new job is. Tons of fun modeling, rigging, animating, and texturing this guy. Definitely a learning experience for upcoming animations. Things I'll never do again: animate cloth.

Cowgirls and lazy puppehs?

Was inspired by my dog's utter laziness sometimes.
...and a cowgirl I did for class. She was fun.

And some quick pool/beach sketches + iguana loving.

ANDDDD lastly, some Carter Goodrich master copies, because he is a boss.
That is all for now, I must return to my home planet.

I still draw sometimes.

Hey everyone! Summer is here and I actually have time to draw again. This is just part of an assignment done for a Fundamentals of Character Design class I'm taking with David Coleman through CGMA. It's been a pretty cool experience and it's a nice break from animation. Speaking of, expect more for-fun animation exercises in the next couple of weeks!

In other summer-news, I'll be going to Siggraph 2013 as a Student Volunteer in July! I'm pretty stoked and can't wait for that. Expect many pictures, but for now have my poop-drawings instead.

Animatics?

Pass or Fail - Montage Animatic from Millie González on Vimeo.

I don't usually post my concept assignments, but when I do, they are pretty ridiculous.

I've been enjoying Concept class a lot more this semester. It's loads of fun coming up with characters and stories!

Lighting Shenanigans

Lighting was significantly funner than I expected it to be! There's still things I want to revisit on this, but I have to move on for now. The models were provided by Ringling College and I am responsible for all the texturing, lighting, and compositing.

Animation Reel - Fall 2012

Hey guys! This is my animation demo reel and it contains my best work from the Fall 2012 semester (both in  Computer and Traditional animation). I definitely can't wait to whip out more animations this semester!
